Cupping Score 83

Eldorado Coffee grew on a traditional family farm kept for generations, located in the Alta Mogiana region spanning the northern part of Sao Paulo state and the south of Minas Gerais.

In addition to planting and picking coffee beans, they also process the coffee beans at the farm developing high-quality coffees due to the perfect climate conditions for the coffee trees and with altitudes between 1000 and 1200 meters above sea level giving the coffee a unique flavour that distinguishes it from other regions.

Since 2010 the farm shifted its focus from large-scale efficiency to aiming for specialty coffee. The move was highly successful and rewarding, placing them as winners of the Alta Mogiana Competition and high rankings in the Cup of Excellence many times in the last decade.

The environmental impact is also very important to them. They are keeping up with sustainability by reducing chemicals and trying to preserve the microbial life in the topsoil to maintain fertility. They are pioneers in that. To reach their objective, they produce and apply biological inputs that contribute to restoring the environment’s balance.

The farm focuses on an Arabica bean variety known as Catucai, a cross between Catuai and Icatu. Catucai can be both yellow and red and is well-known for its high productivity and yield. The coffee is produced at an average altitude of 1100m above sea level and is naturally processed (dry process: dried in the whole cherry before de-pulping), which is why it has notes of chocolate and nuts. Naturals tend to have more fruit and fermented flavours because the bean has more time to interact with the natural sugars from the cherry as enzymes break down the mucilage around the bean.

You will enjoy the well-balanced mouthfeel of the Dark Chocolate with subtle notes of Blood Orange and a finish with a hint of Sweet Malt and Roasted Hazelnut taste.

Smells divine

I highly recommend it, whether you are in for a strong aroma or a subtile flavour. Don’t overthink it , just try it. I guarantee you’ll be hooked.

Worth a try

I thought I'd give this coffee a try due to the dark chocolate flavor profile that I enjoy. Unlike the coffee I had tried from a different brand prior to this, I didn't find the beans oily at all which was great as I often use them in an expresso machine. The beans ground nicely and I prepared this in a french press and I find the flavour mild, but it's not a bad thing.
