This class is the foundation for coffee brewing and is essential for any newcomer to the coffee industry. This workshop provides critical instruction and practice, continuing to explore the six crucial elements of coffee brewing through manual brewing methods.
At the end of the class, you will have a strong basic knowledge of the principles governing optimum brewing methods. And you will know how to improve your coffee brew each time.
Beginners will have hands-on experience with the equipment and will:
- Identify the four primary sensory aspects of brewed coffee.
- List and explain the six essential elements of brewing.
- Recognise the three main stages of the brewing process.
- Discuss how coffee extraction works using different brewing methods, including complete immersion, pour-over, and AeroPress.
- Explore and practice with brewing devices within one or more of the chosen brewing methods.

The workshop can be customised to match each participant’s individual goals. This full-day session is perfect for coffee enthusiasts looking to elevate their brewing skills or progress to a more advanced level, including competition preparation. Participants are encouraged to shape the workshop around their aims, and you’re welcome to bring your own equipment for hands-on practice.

- National Canada Barista Sensory Judge
- National Canada Brewer Championship Sensory Judge since 2022, and in France since 2025
