The participant will get hands-on with the Giesen sample roast (200 gr) and the IKAWA home (50 gr). They will practice what they learned during the SCA foundation course on the sample roasting machine.
They will have the possibility to work on their roasting profile.
This workshop is a good opportunity for beginners to work on their roasting profile based on the coffee green beans provided and train with the machine alone. It's a good first step to be in a roaster's shoes and see the challenges they can face.
Details of the session:
- 20-30 min of rules reminding and QA
- Practice their 3 own roasting profiles on the Giesen Sample roast (3 x 200g)
- Practice their 2 own roasting profile on the Ikawa home (2 x 50g) or 1 extra roasting on the Giesen Sample roast (1 x 100g)
- A total of 700g or more of coffee green beans will be provided for each participant during the session depending on their self-schedule for their roasting
- 30-45 min a tasting session will be set up before the end of the session
- Participants can go home with their coffee
- Complimentary snacks will be offered during breaks

Its a 4 hour practice workshop where I practiced roasting under Chanthaly’s supervision. I had the opportunity to roast 3 times in the sample roaster and 3 times in the Ikawa roaster. And its not just roasting but also an opportunity to share notes and ideas with other roasters. I highly recommend this workshop for any beginner roaster looking to enhance their skills.
